FC - yes. But it will be a lot of people's favourite. Should have been even better to watch but the spastic french cameraman focused on the french champion Bering and missed part of Dancing Brave's quite devastating turn of foot that left them all for dead.

Re: Your favourite horse race of all time
Just something to ponder. Dancing Brave clocked the penultimate furlong in the Derby at 10.3 secs. He ran the final furlong in his Arc win at 10.8

The world record five furlong speed (run at Epsom) is here;

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/fastest-horse-racing-time-over-5-furlongs

As you can see that is an average furlong speed of 10.73. Dancing Brave's speed is genuinely freakish and shouldn't be possible at the end of a mile and a half.

That's why I believe that unless the finish could be run out of him (and worth bearing in mind that his overall Arc speed was a trach record at the time and I belief stood for many years), it would be virtually impossible for any horse to withstand that late onslaught.

Maori Venture 1987 Grand National, saw it in one single race before and thought it raced a blinder and when the commentator said it was a good bet for the National, thought it was as piss easy as that, so told of others to back it as well, which they did at 40 and 33/1.......if only it was as easy as they every year....waited 20 years til the next one, Silver Birch.

Favourite race is The Lincoln (tomorrow), no other reason other than my Grandad loved watching the racing on a Saturday and the Lincoln is the first name of a race I can remember watching with him as a kid.

Re: Your favourite horse race of all time
Jfk....the Cesarewitch!!....although the Lincoln was the first one I remembered watching with him (to a kid it did feel exactly like a cavalry charge), the Cesarewitch is the one he always went on about, more than any other race.

He didn't smoke as such, but woukd always have a cigar or two on the go while watching the races, and it was gave me the bug to have bets going on a race or two every Saturday afternoon

He really knew his horses though, kept big ledgers all handwritten, way before we all had PCs and think he used to concentrate most on their bloodlines and distances and going and made decent money from it - unlike me!!

First years in the bookies was when you woukd still get groups of old women in them betting pennies on the greyhounds.

Good luck with the Lincoln today mate....I do the trends with the races, which unfortunately today has thrown up Chelsea Lad...I'm in two minds!

I like the Lincoln as it heralds in the Flat season. Bastard to bet on though, complete lottery in my experience.
